Matcha Latte (Vegan option)

Matcha, or Japanese green tea, has become popular overseas in the past few years. You can now find green tea lattes and matcha flavored sweets available in stores around the world.

It’s not only tasty, but it’s also good for your health.

I like the original matcha latte which is matcha and full fat milk, but my favorite one is the vegan version even though I’m not a vegan. The combination of matcha, coconut milk and almond milk is just so good.

Recipes

Matcha Latte

Servings 2

Ingredients

Original

  • 1-2 tsp matcha powder Check the "Helpful Tips"
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 2 cups milk *
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sift the matcha powder and add hot water. Don’t use boiling water. The temperature of the hot water should be around 70-80℃ (158-176℉). Whisk them well to dissolve the matcha powder. Strain to remove the lumps.

  2. Heat the milk and pour into the matcha. Add vanilla extract as you prefer.

  3. Add maple syrup or sugar as you prefer.

Vegan Matcha Latte

  1. Use 1 cup of coconut milk and 1 cup of unsweetened plant-based milk (my favorite is almond milk) instead of 2 cups of milk.

Helpful Tips

The preference of the strength of the matcha flavor will be different from person to person. Please adjust to your liking. If you prefer iced latte, you don’t need to heat the milk.
